The Council House - Asbestos Removal
Nottingham’s Old Market Square has long been a feature of the city, originally being a market and the first site of Goose Fair. The original square was designed in the 1920’s as a public area adjacent to the newly built Council House. A major part of the redevelopment of the Council House and Market Square was to remove asbestos lagging to the old heating system on top of the Council House, and also renew the lead work to the roof. CMEC Environmental were selected from theCity Council’s select list and were successful in winning this very specialised contract.
Description:A major part of the redevelopment of the Council House and Market Square was to remove asbestos lagging to the old heating system on top of the Council House, and renew the lead work to the roof. CMEC were successful in winning this very specialised contract.
All the work had to be carried out from the roof area and from within enclosures constructed from scaffolding. Road closures and crane permits were required to allow a 100ton crane to lift all the equipment required for the completion of the job. During the wind, snow and rain of the winter the integrity of the building had to be maintained.
After the asbestos was removed, CMEC managed a specialist sub contractor to repair and replace all lead work to the roof.
