Fuel & Gas Tank Removal
Storage tanks can be found either above or below ground, CM
EC can efficiently and effectively remove these for you.
Underground storage tanks (UST) which have been used for the storage of flammable or combustible liquids must be decommissioned in an appropriate manner when they are no longer required, or are no longer suitable for such use. Adherence to strict decommissioning procedures is necessary to avoid the potential health, safety and environmental hazards associated with the closure of an UST system, and with the site itself.
Hydrocarbon products being stored or transferred from/to UST systems can cause substantial contamination of soil, air and water if allowed to escape, and can have severe negative impacts on human health and ecological systems. Often small leaks and spills occur repeatedly over many years, accumulating to levels where substantial threats may be presented. If the groundwater becomes contaminated by hydrocarbons, any remedial operations will potentially be more timely, complex and costly.
If you have a site that has USTs that need decommissioning, then CMEC Demolition can help. We can organise the site investigations to determine the soil and ground water conditions and the amount of contamination on site. All of this information can be used to establish which would be the most cost effective method for the situation.
We are then able to either do any necessary remedial work or carry out the complete removal of the tanks and piping, along with the approval from the Local Authority Petroleum Officer. This is when the tanks and lines are excavated and removed from the ground. The tanks must then be destroyed or made unfit for further storage of hazardous materials. We can perform this part of the operation; however, a person who is suitably qualified must be on site to supervise the removal and destruction of the tank.
Once the tanks have been removed then we can perform the clean up of any contaminated soil and have samples taken to ensure that the clean up is done and you are left with a clean site.
